If You Have Racked Your Brain and Searched for Information
If you have racked your brain and searched for information, facts and tips on buying repo cars, look no further. Potential car buyers must always ponder on the where, how and what of repo car buys. We are all looking for a good deal.
Cars become repossessed when the owners no longer make payments on them. The banks and other lending institutions get them and show them to the public for sale. The best place to look for them is at a newspaper and magazine classified ads. They usually offer cars, trucks and even RVs for sale at 50 % to 75% lower than the retail value! Buyers should also look at on-line auctions. These offer vehicles for sale all over the country.
Now we know where to look, got the car, truck or RV that we want, but how do we assess these repo trucks and cars to know that we are getting a fair deal? A diligent buyer must look at: the exterior and interior of the target vehicle. Check the engine systems and give it a careful second look.
When inspecting the exterior and interior, a general rule of thumb is that these are second-hand cars, they will always have a certain degree of wear. Check the paintwork for signs of body work, such as bubbles, variations in color shade or over spraying. Look for cracks too and when we open and close the hood and the doors should be functioning properly. For the interior, watch out for upholstery that is not out of place and original. Check for mildew under the seats to show you how much damage the car has gone through.
The car’s engine clearly merits a sound check. Most auctions will not allow us to test drive them but, we can start the engine and listen for any unusual sounds or rattles. Check too if some parts, gears and bolts are mismatched as this shows that some mechanism refurbishing has been done previously. We should scrutinize the color indicators of the engine oil and transmission fluid. Light pink for the transmission fluid means it is OK, dark brown shows that it needs a bit of work. The engine oil should not be bubbly or have dirt in it. Inspect for leaks and cracks too.
